Elder Cano and I have found out that we have a talent for making people cry. It`s most likely a gift we`ve been given to get people to spill the beans in the middle of lessons. So really, my mission life is an emotional rollercoaster leading to the healing power of the Atonement!<br /></div>
The past two weeks we`ve been teaching a less active member and his spouse who`s non-member. Their names are Isaias and Yudit (a weird Spanish way for the name Judith). Yudit has been an investigator for several years now, and she wants to get baptized, but the problem is that she doesn`t want to get married with Isaias. It`s hard because Isaias is an alcoholic, and has falls and rises every so often. We`ve been giving him advice on how to maintain his temper and overcome the temptation of drinking to forget his problems. One night, after bearing my testimony of the Spirit, he began to ball for about ten minutes saying, "Esta vez, voy a cambiar." They were going strong! Attending church and everything! But last Saturday we were headed to our room to change our clothes and eat lunch when we saw him on the corner drinking at a table with some "friends". There was a moment when, as we passed, he glanced at us, but quickly looked away thinking we wouldn`t see him. After thinking of what to do, Elder Cano and I walked up to him, despite all the drunks and began talking with him. I have to say, my heart was broken. He faught again with Yudit, and left all angry at the world and began drinking again. Refusing to come with us, I shared with him Ether 12:27 and just broke down crying. It`s hard to watch people completely refuse to be saved and just decide to change. But experiences like this just prepare us in our own lives and give us even greater testimony. Elder Cano and I walked away with watery eyes, but we haven`t lost hope in this family. On Tuesday we have and appointment, and it won`t be a moment they can forget!<br /></div>
We also had an incredible experience with Roxana this past week. During the time we`ve been teaching her, she`s kept a huge grunge against her spouse who left her about eight months ago. But there was a suddent moment where, after leaving her with Book of Mormon chapters to read on her own every day, we show up one day to find the darkness in her eyes completely brightened with the light of Christ. We sat down with her and she told us that after staying up all night, unable to sleep, she got down on her knees to ask with a sincere heart if the Book of Mormon is true. A peaceful feeling came over her as she was prompted to read Mosiah 27:25-29. Suddenly, she just felt the need to forgive her spouse for all the evil he had done to her in completely abandoning not only her, but their little son Pedro of 4 years, for another woman. When she told me that "Por fin, he decidido perdonar a mi esposo," it was like a rush of the Spirit came into the room. After all the tears, regret, resentment and moments of frustration that Roxana carried, the Atonement just swept in and did all the rest. We`ve made her cry so many times! She will now be getting baptized this Saturday instead of the end of the month as we had planned! Keep her in your prayers!<br /></div>
As district leader, I have the grand opportuniy of doing baptismal interviews for candidates. This past week, I intervied the zone leaders`investigator, Darlene, who is 15 years old, and whose mother got baptized the week before. I was impressed by her good heart, and innocent mind. However, at the end she wanted to tell me something. "Si, hermanita, compartame." She let me know that a member of her family had tried to assault her, and she, being so young, felt so terrible inside. She told me that she didn`t think God loved her. Tears in both of our faces, I pulled out my handy book of ilustrations, and opened to the picture of Christ suffering in Gethsemane. I bore my testimony so strongly that God loves her, and despite all that we can do wrong, he still loves us. I also explained to her that she wasn`t guilty for what her family member committed. By this point, tears are just cascading down our cheeks, but the Spirit let us know that she was ready to make a baptismal covenant. Despite the fact that I`ve never taaught her, she chose me to baptize her! What a special experience for me, and such a privilege!<br /></div>
At times, Elder Cano and I complain about the fact that everyone seems to have horrible problems. I mean, it`s just a fact of life that we have to face with courage. Christ is our greatest friend! I testify of the power of the Atonement in any person`s life. The Spirit has prompted me with the lyrics of the hymn, "I know that my Redeemer lives." What a beautiful hymn! It has recently made the top of my list. Anyway, I invite you all to meditate on the wonderful gift of the Atonement by singing this hymn,and to look for ways to apply such a gift in our lives. I love the Savior, and I love this gospel. He literally changes us so that one day we can be clean and pure, equal in glory and perfection. What a blessing to have such precious knowlege!<br /></div>
I love you all immenseley! Have a wonderful week!<br /></div>

My title is just too clever right now.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This past week has definitely, I would say, been one of the hardest so far on my mission. What a contrast it has been compared to all of the weeks before! </div>
<div>
This is the first time I`ve had so many challenges with the investigators accepting baptismal invitations, and also just been feeling low overall. However, I have hope. There`s always hope because two good things happened this week:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Carla got baptized! It was actually sort of a miraculous feat. On Tuesday we brought a member with us as usual to accompany us in the lesson. We got on the theme of living prophets and Carla, confused, didn`t want to accept that there`s a living prophet named Thomas S. Monson. To make it worse, the member began to argue with her, and the Spirit zipped out of that place on rollerskates! Carla got all annoyed and said she wasn`t sure if she wanted to be baptized because she had a weird dream the night before. I had this urge to punch the member in the face, but being a missionary and as members of the church, we don`t normally punch people in the middle of lessons with investigators. It was just a bad thought. So I witheld myself and said we would just come back the next day, leaving Carla with Jacob 4, which talks about the purpose of prophets.</div>
<div>
Thankfully, it worked! The next day we came back with full force of the Spirit,and cleared it all up. On Friday she had her baptismal interview, and Saturday afternoon she was baptized. Normally, converts get confirmed the next day at church, but in Carla`s case, she had a surprise news source let her know that her university enrollment back in the selva (or jungle) had started early. So she was confirmed right there on Saturday, and had to high tail it out of town at like 4 am on Sunday morning. We sent her on her way with a couple gifts, and a letter from each of us as her missionaries. The good news is that where she studies, she lives across the street from the LDS chapel! The place is called La Merced, in Junin, Peru.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. Elder Cook gave a surprise visit here in Lima! It was literally a "Cook" Off. Saturday morning we had the privilege of shaking the hands of Elder Waddell, a seventy, and Elder Cook and their wives. During Sister Cook`s talk, she had us all stand, 400 missionaries, and sing Hark! All Ye Nations for her. She conducted the whole things with big happy arms and had us do some interesting renditions of the hymn. It was fun haha! She bore her testimony on the power of the hymns in helping us develop Christlike attributes. That lady has musical talent!</div>
<div>
Elder Cook spoke to us about the accelerating speed at which the missionary work is progressing. He said that before the age announcement, it took two apostles each week to make about 500 assignments. Now, it takes about four or five apostles to make about 1500 each week. Before he was an apostle, he worked in the missionary department in the church offices. He told us how President Hinckley called him to the office for an interview, he was taken aback by the calling extended as an apostle. At first he wanted to reject, but the prophet just waved his hand up and down saying, "I don`t want to hear any of that. Will you accept?" After about an hour of sobbing after saying "Yes." He went home later that evening and, opening the door, he saw his wife and said "Honey, we´re in BIG trouble!" Anyway, he was able to testify that, as an apostle who now makes the mission call assignments, he was absolutely amazed by the power of the Spirit in letting them know where each and every single missionary needs to serve, and for what reason. He testified that we are where we are meant and needed to be as messengers of the Lord.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, thinking of Christlike attributes, I read D&C 4 this morning while studying which reads:</div>

If you look up chapter six of PMG, you can read in detail about each and every one of those attributes stated in that scripture. What a marvelous time in life to be able to serve a mission. There is nothing more precious than representing the Lord in his great work and a wonder. I love this gospel, and know it is true. I testify that Jesus Christ bears us up as we strive to be more like him. He promises us to guide and protect us as we serve, and to bless us eternally as a reward.</div>

<div dir="ltr">
So basically, I had like a huge realization the other day. "Some Peruvians actually know German really well." There´s probably a ratio of about 39,999,999 to one. That´s according to my calculation.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
****Fun fact: Peru has a population of aprozimately 40 million.****</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So anyway, I was totally buying a pen in the market when this lady with a long robe and strange blue hat walks up to me and asks in English something along the lines of "Can you herlp me wit a slate?" I was all like lookin´around to see if there was someone to translate, but realizing I was the only blue eyed blonde person around I just simply replied "yes." Suddenly, like Mary Poppins she wips out a big bag and flips out a few sheets of paper with English writing. I realized she wanted me to translate it for her, so I began to read it as she continued to speak absolutely imperfect English into my trained deaf ear. But my face went red because the things it said was a sexually empowered love letter to an ex-boyfriend of some sorts. In my head I was all like, " Lady, WHAT is your problem?! Can´t you see the name on my plack that says Jesucristo written in big white letters?" but instead it came out, " I´m sorry, but I don´t understand very well because I´m from Germany."(but in Spanish) I thought I had done a great job in getting such a wacko off my back, but instead this lady, with a frigtening smile begins moving her lips around and perfect German comes spewing out of her mouth. I was totally taken aback! So in response I just walked away, thinking that would solve the whole encounter. Ten minutes later, I telling the whole story to the rest of the missionaries in our zone. We all started laughing about it when the same wacko appears in the middle of our group and begins to burn me in German. (I wish Christian were here to explain to me what she said!) Once again, feeling totally wigged out I just walked away and got inside a mototaxi to take me away from the whole situation along with my companion. All the missionaries in our zone still laugh about it to this day.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So that was another strange ecounter I had in Peru.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, Rony was baptized last Saturday! His mom, Ana Maria, decided she wanted to wait more time before getting baptized. It was sort of frustrating at first, but we´re not here to force dunk her into the water, but the follow the example of Jesus Christ as a humble desire of her heart. We´re doing our best to help her receive more conversion through the Book of Mormon, which is a big focus in the mission. There was a small problem in filling the baptismal font and so, with water at my knees I had to baptized Rony. At the fourth try, we were able to get his whole body submerged into the water. It was definitely like on of those moments in sacrament when the prayer to bless the water is said like ten times because of little mistakes. But it was a great experience and only strengthens my testimony that were not here to only bake half the cake on these sacred ordinances!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, my time has actually run out. I sent several emails to a few friends. I´ll keep you updated on the Roxana, Gladis, Karla, Ana Maria, and the rest of the gang next week! I´m sorry if my letter wasn´t all that spiritual, but please understand. Last night my companion, Elder Cano, had his own miraculous realization that our apartment ceiling was literally covered in green and white mold. Last night I had a bunch of dreams about mold and woke up thinking I was going to die breathing the air in our room. But we spen the whole morning taking all the furniture out and scraping it all off. Now we just have to repaint, and it´ll be like spankin´new! These experiences just make companions the best of friends!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love you all to little tiny pieces!</div>

<div dir="ltr">
The past week has seen several falls, yet several rises in the work as well. Just normal mission ups and downs right?<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First of all, the birthday bashin` was great last Tuesday. My stomach wanted to explode by the end of the day. For lunch, Hermana Cabrera invited us some delicious pasta, with stake and a famous peruvian side dish called "Papa a la Huancaina". She also surprised my with a beautiful birthday cake. Fue lo maximo! Later that evening we supposedly had a meeting in the chapel, but the mision leader surprised me with a little party where all the previous converts were present, including the Urbina and Miranda families. They all expressed a few words and in the end I got a face planted in a cake which read "Feliz Dia Elder Lamber". Elder Lamber???!!! Well, now you know how they pronounce my name down here. Lamber is a word which also means "to lick". Looks like I fulfilled prophecy as I licked icing off my face. haha.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Elder Borda and I were feeling pretty great with ourselves last week as well. On Saturday night we were happy to report six investigators with baptismal dates! And Sonia got baptized as well! However, despite arranging plans for everybody to come to church, Gladis, Karla, Roxana, and Ana Maria didn`t end up in sacrament meeting for several reasons.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was feeling terrible in sacrament meeting. I felt so frustrated and inside my head I had lost patience. While playing the piano during the first hymn, I was biffing all the notes and the whole room was singing slower than I was playing. As I sat down with a red face full of embarrasment, I just lowered my head for a while and suddenly the sacrament bread was in front of me. That`s when I realized how slow I had been in my faith. I thought of the Savior, and of all the time I had seen those videos where the apostles sleep as he bleeds from every pore, or when the rooster crows as Peter denies his greatest friend, and when the Roman soldiers spit in his face with grit between their teeth. It was one of those Atonement moments that helped me climb out of a spiritual funk. I opened my Spanish scriptures to Moroni 9:6 which reads,</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"<span style="background-color: #fefbbf; color: #2f393a; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 22px;">And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor </span>a<a class="" href="http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/moro/9.6?lang=eng#" id="footnote5" rel="http://www.lds.org/scriptures/footnote?lang=eng&volumeUri=bofm&bookUri=moro&chapterUri=9&noteID=6a" style="border-width: 0px; color: #486fae; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 22px; list-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">diligently</a><span style="background-color: #fefbbf; color: #2f393a; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 22px;">; for if we should cease to </span>b<a class="" href="http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/moro/9.6?lang=eng#" id="footnote6" rel="http://www.lds.org/scriptures/footnote?lang=eng&volumeUri=bofm&bookUri=moro&chapterUri=9&noteID=6b" style="border-width: 0px; color: #486fae; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 22px; list-style: none; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">labor</a><span style="background-color: #fefbbf; color: #2f393a; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 22px;">, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God." </span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: #fefbbf; color: #2f393a; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 22px;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">That scripture basically made me cry in the middle of sacrament meeting. Although nobody saw me or felt what I felt, I could feel God talking to me personally in a moment of weak faith. Needless to say, I`m grateful for such moments that let me know the reality of such ups and downs in the mission. As we represent Jesus Christ on our white shirts, we`re going to feel at times a part of what he went through. In some small way, we have to pay a small token to someone who gave up all at such a great price.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Anyway, on Saturday night, my district leader let me know that I`m here to stay at least another tranfer in Floresta. I can hardly beleive I`ve already been here for almost six months, and by the end of this tranfer I`ll have seven! I was also informed that I will now be a district leader as well! That`s when the harsh reality came to me that I`m no longer a newbie......I`m about to complete a year in September. Color me blown away people! Elder Borda left to his mission in Bolivia, his visa came, and his temporary moment in Peru Lima Sur has finished. My new companion is Elder Cano from Callao, which is a northern part of Lima. We`re basically like two hours away from his house. Yet this is his mission! He`s a super great missionary with about six months of experience. We`ve really been getting along well and have made instant friends! He has three brothers and a sister who live and work in Utah with their families. He told me that Sandy was one of the cities where his brother lives. Anyway, I`m excited to work with my new companion!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Wellp, my times up. I wish you all another fantastic week. Love you so much!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Que Dios les bendiga en todos sus caminos!</span></div>

<div>
Hey family!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Well, it´s been another good week for me!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I think the most interesting and stressful part was just getting those darn marriage papers turned in for Jose Luis and Marilu. Can someone rich up there just pay for these people two take a two-way trip to Las Vegas, gettem´ all married n´ stuff, and fly back? I think it would be so much easier than working with the Peruvian government.........sigh. But hey, why complain? We only had to postpone the marriage two more weeks so the municipality ¨has enough time¨ to transmit the documents. Hmmmm.....that sounds like a lot of coffee breaks to me.....(maybe Word of Wisdom pamphlets could help???). Anyway, the good thing is that despite family feuds and blood tests, the whole thing has worked out and now Marilu and Jose Luis just have to wait until the 26th to have a little fiesta and on the 27th a nice baptismal service. I love missionary work combined with marriage counseling!!!! There´s no greater satisfaction.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
We had a wonderful baptismal service last Saturday for Rosario and her daughter Vanessa. The water was kinda cold, and all three of us were hit hard with colds, coughs, and runny noses but we still braved it out! The Spirit was strong during the service, and Charo said it felt like she´s been given a fresh perspective on how the Lord has blessed her despite life´s difficulties. The next day at church the bishop presented them both after they were confirmed in sacrament meeting by the elders quorum presidency.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
We´ve been teaching a couple newer investigators named Gladis and David. Gladis has been double widowed since she was nineteen and has six kids (what? at what age did she start having kids? I have an urge to ask her.....). David,who´s the youngest and is thirteen, has had a troubled past leaving the house to walk the streets with his friends. I´m not sure if he´s robbed or not, but it´s good that he´s listening to us! He´s come to church with us twice, and is a bit quiet. It seems like he just hates everything, just with the way he looks at you, but he seems to like it becuase he never fails a lesson, comes to church early in the morning, and accepted the baptismal invitation. We had a powerful lesson on the Restoration last Tuesday, and his mom let us know about a dream she had where she found the true church. Ummmm......seriously, these Peruvians have such profound dreams! Anyway, she has been searching churches all her life, and we promised her that if she comes to church with us that she will feel like her search is over. We´ve really been pushing the Book of Mormon lately, and she loves to read it and learn about the teachings of Nephi. Anyway, tonight we have plans to set a baptismal date for August third. Cross your fingers, and let the Spirit do the work!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
This Saturday we have Lucia and Patrick set to go. Lucia is a super awesome lady with real determination to stay faithful to the Lord and fulfill her commitments. She has two troubled sons who we´re trying, little by little, to work with. But she has faith and prays every single day that the Lord with touch their hearts. Patrick is excited and ready. He´s a smart kid, and he´s the third in his family to get baptized. His dad is a bit of a violent case, but his older brothers help us out so he can continue forward!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Anyway, it´s been a great week! I´m so grateful to be in Floresta and to have the privilege of working in the Lord´s vineyard. It´s a joy to see the seeds of our labor take root, and bring forth fruit for the Lord´s kingdom. I love you all and wish you another happy week all the way from Peru!</div>

It sounds like you`ve all had another fantastic week as usual. That`s great because I have too! Things as usual continue to roll forward. A su.......it`s so hard to write in English and think Spanish at the same time! haha</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We`ll, just thought I`d let you know that on this side of the world it`s actually been pretty chilly lately. Lots of fog and wind to just whip all that fog up into your sleeves and make you icy cold. The temperatures are nowhere near Utah winter temperatures, but it feels colder due to the humid climate. But hey, I`ll just have to buy a heavy duty sweater to accompany my coat.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, the Miranda family, unfortunately, did not get married last Thursday. We almost had the solution, but we didn`t make it. The good news is that they will be getting married this Thursday, and we`re planning a small party in the Alarcon family`s home. This Saturday we have the newly weds along with Charo and her daughter Vanessa lined up to be baptized. So that should be a great experience! Creo que todos me van a escoger para bautizarles solo por ser gringo. Elder Borda esta celoso haha. Go ahead. Translate that for the kids.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, the other four with baptismal dates are Lucia, Patrick, Alicia and Sonia. Lucia is a lot like Regina and has great desires to continue faithful in the church. She has two sons that are older and one has been to jail at only 20 years old, but lately he`s taken interest in coming to church and participating with the YSA group in sports and fiestas. It will be exciting to be at her baptism and see all her non-member family and friends join us. She let us know that she`s already invited like eight people, wondering if that was too much. haha. Oh Lucia.........</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Patrick is an eleven year old kid whose older brother is an active future missionary named Yan. That kid is darn intelligent! It seems like the kids just understand so easily the gospel while it takes hammers and nails for adults to understand sometimes. Haha but that`s what makes Primary so grand. He and Lucia are set for the 20th of this month.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Alicia is a young adult who has a background in Evangelical churches. She`s super great but doesn`t like to express her feelings too much becuase she cries really easily. We ask her how this and that went and she always says "fine." And then we have to ask more questions to get the details. It`s like when moms ask the kids how school went and they just say, "Good" but refuse to say anything else. Haha. But she let us know that after praying to know the Book of Mormon was true she had a vivid dream that she was in the baptismal font being baptized. Problem solved. Her baptism is for the 27th of July.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Sonia is from the Sierra and her whole family has the whole Catholic deal going on. However, she has taken a recent interest in coming to know Christ more. Whenever she reads the Book of Mormon with us and we ask questions, she always gives such golden answers. Sort of the opposite of Alicia. She`s headed for the 10th of August.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, it`s been a great week for us. The bishop is really picking things up. I feel really grateful becuase our ward mission leader is the hardest working one in the whole stake. I just feel happy to do the work of the Lord each day as a I wake up and pray to have the Spirit with me each day.It`s a daily routine, but it`s one of the most satsifying, and never gets old!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love this gospel, and testify that this is the work of the Lord. I testify of the power of testimony. I was reading a scripture in D and C 62:3 which reads, "Nevertheless, ye are blessed, for the testimony which ye have borne is recorded in heaven for the angels to look upon and they rejoice over you, and your sins are forgiven you." I love that scripture. It really bore to my heart the power in pure testimony not only said on earth, but recorded in heaven for all the angels to see. I testify that this is the only true church of Jesus Christ that holds the priesthood power to perform sacred saving ordinances. I know that I have been sent by the Lord to represent his Son. I am His missionary!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. We had three days straights where the sun came out and I could prance around without a goofy sweater on.</div>
<div>
2. 11 investigators came to church last Sunday.</div>
<div>
3. We found 6 new people to teach and they`re GOLDEN.</div>
<div>
4. We got stopped by a drunkman one night after grabbing dinner from a member`s home. He began speaking English to me and I told him I was from France just to make him more confused. After he babbled a few words I let him know that we were in a hurry to get home. He then proceeded to give me a hug telling me that he needed Jesus and all o` the sudden I get this huge wet alcohol smelling KISS on my neck! I`ve never run so fast in my life....</div>
<div>
5. I was reminded of the time when it was my last day in Mala and a naked drunkman/former investigator hugged me as well......</div>
<div>
6. We have 6 baptismal dates for July!</div>
<div>
7. I didn`t get transfered! So I`m STAYIN` home in Floresta folks!</div>
<div>
8. I definitely have E-coli in my water every stinkin`day! So be grateful. Life`s just a hassle sometimes!</div>
<div>
9. Who knew that playing mass hot potato was so fun?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So to say I had an excellent week would be an understatement. I was praying so hard not to leave Floresta an I promised I would work harder than ever before for the next six weeks that God has given me. I just didn`t feel like it was time to leave yet, and whatya know, wishes do come true. Things are just getting better every day as usual! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was super excited because Bishop De La Cruz here is excellent. Although sometimes he has the tendency to talk a lot about his mission, he really just gets the "whole idea," if you know what I mean. This last Sunday we had attendance spike up to about 160 after the month of May had an all-time low of 110. In sacrament meeting the Bishop gave a rallying talk to get the ward more motivated, and later that day we had a celestial count of 11 investigators in church. The last world training was such a booster to the misisonary work. FINALLY, the members and leaders are having an even greater realization that they are so important in missionary work.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Our ward mission leader, Hermano Roberto, helped us plan a Noche Misional last Friday. As usual, it some how came together with a lot of procrastination and waiting until the last minute to cook food, put up the decorations, and wait for the "Peruvian hour" to kick in as the crowd came about an hour and 15 minutes late. With one of the members who lives below our apartment, Jhonatan helped us create a list of "get to know you" questions for the activity so that all would participate in the fun. We had Hermana Franchesca with the games, but when it all came down to it, she hadn`t planned a thing! Hermano Rober brought the tables but forgot to put together the program. So the Spirit just kicked right in as I just played piano for the opeing hymn, signaled a brother to say the opening prayer WHILE playing piano (now THAT`S talent), picked up the microphone, welcomed everybody, plugged in my USB to play some good ol` MOTAB during the activity, and with my list of pre-cut questions that Herman Regina put together for me earlier, we played a mass game of "Hot Potato". I mean seriously people, I didn`t know what I was getting into when my voice turned into narrator for the whole game as well. We broke up into groups who each had their object as the hot potato, each person had several slips of paper with questions on them, and I began yelling into the mic "La papa se quema la papa se quema la papa se quema la papa se quema la papa se quema la papa se quema la papaaaaaaaaa se quema se quema la papa la papa la papa la papa se quema la papa la papa se QUEMÒ!!!" And the whole salon just broke into laughter as the hot potatoes burned up. Whoever had the hot potato land on them had to ask a question like "Have you ever sung in the shower? If yes, then what did you sing?" or "If you could be called on a mission, where would you like to serve?" It literally never got old as the hot potato burned up each round and every laught so hard. At the end we had some balloons that for whatever reason we thought it would be a good idea to fill with white flour. So we popped them over the heads of those who had to ask the most questions as punishment or otherwise they had to do the famous Peruvian "Duck Dance" in front of everybody hahaha. Anyway, it was fun, and we had a great crowd attend. I was exhausted by the end of it all as well.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The Miranda family is doing great but Marilu`sbirth certificate has proven difficult to find and we`ve had to postpone their baptism over and over again. The hard thing is that tomorrow is the dealine for the mass marriage this Saturday but you know, we tried. There is a sister who works in the local government who might be able to pull some strings and get the whole thing rollin´for there little marriage party and baptism this Saturday. But I guess we`ll see!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, I love just being so busy in the work of the Lord. I am so blessed and know this is the true church of God on the earth. Last week Elder Christofferson visited Peru for the celebration of the 100th stake in Peru. I wasn`t invited to go but his words were something like, "These are the last days. but the end does not depend on the world becoming more wicked, it depends on us preparing the world for the Second Coming of the Savior." Wow. What a privilege to be a missionary at this time.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love you all so much! </div>

<div>
Well, it`s been an interesting week I guess you could say. I guess I`ll just start off by saying.........."Happy Fathers Day!!!!" I spent my day seeing all the fathers here outside playing with their kids on bicycles, laughing gleefully, and holding hands with...............beer bottles haha. And forget the kids on bicylces cause their weren`t any........just a bunch of loud music, drunk laughter and hangovers this morning........... Yup. Happy Fathers Day Peru. Hope it went a little better up in the alps of good ol` Utah. Holidays here are always the same......Christmas, Labor Day, and just about any weekend here just involves a lot of drinking and dancing. But hey. Nothin` like the big bad world. Anyway, thanks Dad for never even trying a drop of beer in your life. You really are the best of em` all!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
It was nice however last Friday because we got to go to the temple as a zone again! As usual, I ended up spending another good bit o`cash on gifts for converts, ties to send home, and such. Elder Borda and I woke up at about 5 am to take a taxi with our district leader and his companion. We ended up being like an hour and a half early, so we went inside the visitors center to sit in the comfy chairs and doze a bit before all the others showed up. The session was incredible as usual, and I just sat in the sealing room with Elder Borda for like a half hour just thinking about the investigators, my mission, you guys, and how grateful I am to be serving in Peru. It was a nice time to just sit and half a moment of peace. Nothing like the temple to renovate the good ol` mission vibe.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
This last Wednesday we had a surprise Multi Zone Conference with President Douglas and the assistants. Oh hey, I think I forgot to mention that one of the assistants is Elder Whiteley from Lindon. He was super good friends with Spencer Harris and played basketball a bunch in our chapel gym. Kinda cool. We never met each other before, but ya know, small world experiences. We had a long conversation about amonth ago in the mission office and he`s an excellent missionary! Anyway, President Douglas came in a little heated to burn us on obedience. Our mission is already pretty darn obedient, which is great, but whenever the elders do something a little out of line, President Douglas literally has zero, I mean about negative two thousand tolerance for disobedience, and we all get chewed out. I haven`t done anything wrong personally, but he about burned our eyebrows off haha. He also talked about how it is now time to "Catch the Wave" and make a big jump in the mission work as the number of missionaries in August will climb to 90,000 throughout the world. The mission will climb from about 220 to 270, and their will be a lot of younger missionaries throughout not only the mission and in the entire world. Kinda exciting. I was pumped up to get to work, and when Elder Borda and I got back to our apartment, I decided it would be good to set some new goals as a companionship in our area according to what we had learned earlier that day. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I also had some sort of sad news from my old companion Elder Luque. Apparently our dear convert Lucio from Mala has passed away. I wasn`t surprised to here the news however. I remember so clearly the blessing that I gave him, and had the impression that he wouldn`t live for too much longer. During the two months after I Ieft Mala he faithfully attended church every Sunday with his wife despite terrible health and trouble walking, and excitedly received the Aaronic priesthood in May after expressing his desire to serve his family and the church as a priesthood holder. One week later, he passed away quietly in his home at age 49 from brain cancer. I didn`t hear much more, neither did I shed a tear because I know he will serve faithfully in the Spirit World. I am SO grateful and privileged for the experience I had as his missionary.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I also had an interesting experience with the Miranda family last Thursday. We arrived at about 8 pm, about thirty minutes late for the appointment, but we walked in on Jose Luis sweeping up glass from the floor. The kids let us know that the mirror had fallen from the wall after a glass cup had landed on it. Then I knew.....there was a fight. We sat down at their table as he finished cleaning up the accident, and I asked her how she was doing. She just said, "fine". Then I asked her again, "Hermana, segura? Esta bien o mas o menos?" She then just started to cry and let us know that she was NOT ok. She had just had an argument with her soon to be spouse and it had ended in them not wanting to get married, and that the baptism would be canceled. A full blown argument started right in front of us, and there was a spirit of contention. After about a half hour of listening to both sides my marriage counselor kicked in. I stopped them, and told their kids to come to the table. We said a prayer as a family to calm down and bring the Spirit to the room, and I told their oldest son Alexis to take all the kids outside to play. I then thought of 3 Nefi 11, when the voice of God begins to speak in the American continent announcing the coming of his Only Begotten after terrible destruction, fire, and many deaths. I let them know that it would be important for them to listen to that soft spoken voice of the Spirit, and not the voice of contention. After about an hour, the whole thing ended in a hug between the two, and a renewed commitment to marriage and baptism. So that was great!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Also, Lucero, it turns out had a fear of water. During her baptism, she sort of had a panic attack and refused to let her head be covered in water. The mission leader got nervous in trying to baptized her and tried to basically force dunk her whole body, but she resisted! And the whole thing ended with a mouthful of water, and a throbbing hand that smacked against the wall. She was super embarrased, and so we talked with her after church and practiced with her how the baptism goes. Anyway, we`ll try again this coming Saturday haha when Luis gets baptized as well. These are just things that surprise us from time to time.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Anyway, that`s my letter for the week. I am so grateful for all the wonderful experiences I`m having each week. This is truly the Lord`s work, and this is truly his church. I love you all and wish you another great week!</div>

However, I continue to work hard with my good ol` companion named Elder Borda! Also, Happy Birthday Dad!!!! How old are you?Haha. I always remember the question we asked as bratty little kids, "Dad, what were the dinosaurs like?" Thanks for sending me the photo of your ziplining adventures with the fam! Also, the President changed internet time back to an hour so......my letters won`t be as long again.........Oh well.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was an interesting week in that not much happened that`s new, but we continue working with several old, and a few newer investigators.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lucero had her baptismal date for the 8th, but after some consideration, and worry on her and our part, we all felt like it would be a good idea to give her one more week to prepare for the 15th. In the end, it was an inspired idea, and she`s excited for the occasion at 7pm (Peruvian time: 8pm), this coming Saturday! She has a family with a sizable group of "Piranhas" which is a term here for lazy bums who play soccer all day, do drugs, and rob at night. So in the end her family likes to make fun of her and tease that she`s going to church and such. Lucero, not being so confident in herself, sort of slipped into feeling dicouraged, but with the love and encouragement of some neighbor friends, the Nieves family, we helped her forget what her family says, and obey what the Lord says! </div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Luis Urbina has shown a lot of interest in the church lately, and always greets us with a firm handshake and never fails an appointment. The awesome thing is that his oldest brother, Andres, who is the only one left who doesn`t have a goal for baptism, is starting to listen to us again, and take more interest in the gospel. Soon enough he`ll have a baptismal date as well, but the thing is getting him to shed his "Piranha" costume and cut his Jedi braid haha. The amazing thing is seeing how the Urbina family has developed since I arrived in Floresta, and the change has been tremendous up until now that almost the whole family will baptized on the 22nd!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As always, we`re experiencing diffuculty in trying to get the Miranda family married. The only thing is the birth certificate of Marilu has been hard to find since her sister who lives close to her birth place doesn`t want to help Marilu get married. So anyway, we`re searching other options through the mission office and ward counsel. Just help us out by praying that we can get the document in time for the deadline to enter the mass marriage!!!! But it was a miracle this past Sunday because Jose Luis came to church without his future spouse and enjoyed it!!! We had trouble getting him to follow through with his church attendance commitments, but after fasting, he came!!!!! It was basically the greatest thing ever.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We also talked with our dear Lucia yesterday in a member home, and she basically told us she`s determined to get baptized, but for some reason didn`t want to put a date on it. However, this Thursday we have a visit with her and she let us know that she would have the day decided by then, she was thinking around July 6th. It`s kind of interesting seeing an investigator wanting to take all the iniciative in deciding to be baptized, but she really shows her desire to follow God in her personal prayer and revelation. She reads her Book of Mormon every day when she takes the train to her work, and love it. Much of her behavior reminds me of Regina doing and saying the same things. By the way, Regina continues to be a rock solid Relief Society Counselor.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, that`s what`s up with me this week. I`m grateful to see y`all wrote me this week. I`ll be printing and reading all the letters this week. I love you all so much and think of you often. Continue forward as always!</div>

<div>
So here´s "what up" ladies and gentlemen:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, this has been an exciting week for the Lord´s work here in Villa El Salvador. Yesterday, we had the privilege of having stake conference. Two members of the Seventy, Elder Wardell and I forget the other, came to speak and make a special announcement. A brand SPANKIN´new stake! There are currently two stakes here now, Villa El Salvador and Pachacamac! Elder Waddell expresed his great thanks to all the members for working with the missionaries in this great work with his lisp using a Spanish accent from Spain. So that was fun to hear as well. Also, our beloved mission president, President Douglas, talked how now it is the time we catch the wave and climb to even greater hights using the words from Elder Nelson in General Conference. The attendance was so packed that after filling the sacrament hall and all the classrooms to the brim there were two huge tents with seats outside and a broadcast of what was going on inside the chapel. Even then there were about 200 people without seats just watching and listening to the conference for two hours standing on foot, which included me and my companion.<br /></div>
<div>
This next week we´re focused on the baptism of dear lil´ Lucero. She´s a quiet type, and it´s been a long road working with her for the past month and a half, but she´s feeling more and more confident each time we visit. She left behind many things in her past as part of her repentance process, and this Wednesday will be her baptismal interview. On Saturday we should have a great attendance of members and family to see her baptism.<br /></div>
<div>
Our other dear investigators, the Miranda family, was almost lost from our grasp this last week as they announced the possibility of moving to another living space in another area of Villa El Salvador. When they told us the news, I wanted to cry, but I just smiled and told them that there would be some changes, and that they should do what is best for the family. Where they live is a tiny space without heating, and witht the winter coming on, it´s been pretty cold at night and in the morning here. They weren´t happy when they asked me what kind of changes and I let them know that if they move, other elders in our zone, and in another ward, would be able to visit them. So we kind of just left them hanging after the visit, and I was feeling pretty down, but prayed that whatever happened, the parents would be able to be baptized into the restored gospel, completing the family. Two days later, just before I was about to pass the reference to the other Elders, Alexis, Amy and their Mom let us know that as a family they all voted against moving. So they´re here to stay! They let us know that they would just look for a living space within Floresta so we could continue teaching them. Hooray!<br /></div>
<div>
Also, we continue to teach Luis Urbina, whose parents, Yhon and Rosa, recently got baptized on the 18th, and whose brother, David, was baptized in March. It´s amazing to see the change in heart that Luis has had so far. At first contact, he didn´t want anything to do with us, but now he listens, reads and prays with real intent to know for himself if these things are true. He continues to progress well towards his baptism on the 22nd of June. His older brother, Andres, is the only person left in the family, but after inviting him to be baptized he decided he didn´t want to. And now he might be headed to Cusco in July to live with his biological mother (Rosa isn´t his actual mother). But I guess we´ll see what the Lord has in store for Andres. I feel like there still might be hope before he heads out o´ town. Rosa and Yhon continue to prosper as new converts, and little by little are becoming accustomed to the church culture. Yhon will soon be advanced to the office of Priest in the Aaronic priesthood. David will be able to bless the sacrament with his Dad! What a blessing!<br /></div>
<div>
Regina is an absolute gem of a convert. As the second counselor in the Relief Society, she has literally lifted the spirit of the whole organization, especially the President, Hermana Lucinda. Last week we visited Hermana Lucinda and she told all about how Regina really has surprised her with her spirit, love of God and for the gospel. She was surprised how a convert of only a month and a half could have such a strong testimony and dedication in a church responsibility. It was also a fun visit because we got to learn some quechua from Lucinda´s mom who was visitng from the Sierra. Such as, Alilachokaykanki, which means, "how are you?" and some other sweet frases! I´ve come to the determination that one day I will speak quechua, the language of the Inca! Anyway, been practicing some good ol´ frases with some of the members who speak quechua, and all of them have been surprised to see a gringo now speaking quecha. Such as "Imataruraykanki pani/huaque?" (what are you doing sister/brother?) or frases like "huarakama!" (until tomorrow!). Oh dear! Peruvian Life is too good sometimes.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My time as a trainer has gone pretty smooth so far. Elder Borda is a great missionary who really tries his best and has progressed nicely so far. He continues to be teachable and humble, which makes training a lot easier! We´ve been working hard and walking fast together. His legs have been hurting as he gets used to the fast walking as a new missionary, and I haven´t really been too merciful whenever he complains that his calves hurt. He has a bit of a belly, so he needs to lose weight anyway haha.<br /></div>
<div>
Yup. So that´s my report for the week. I´m so happy to be a missionary. More and more I am convinced of the power of the gospel in changing individuals, families, and communities in places where Satan takes more and more control of the wheel each day. There´s nothing like winning the Saving Game. I love this work and love working hard in it. Remember to stay faithful and to continue doing the little things like saying your prayers, reading the scriptures, and going to church to particpate in the sacrament. The little things seriously make such a huge difference! And I´ve come to that simple realization here in the mission. I know this church is true. The Book of Mormon is everything to me. Peru is better than Guatemala (aka Elder See) and I´m pleased to say I don´t miss you guys at all, but I sure do love you all and pray for your behalf!<br /></div>
<div>
Enjoy your week!<br /></div>

<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
Well folks, it´s been a fun little week here as usual. I think probably I´ve never had such an up and down week in my life......no I lie. But hey, there´s always something new here to tell.<br /></div>
Ok soooooo basically last Thursday Elder Borda and I were bored watching some training videos and to mix things up I decided to put on Portugese translation. The coolest thing was that I could UNDERSTAND it. It´s basically like speaking Spanish but with a bunch of little rocks falling out of your mouth. No I jest. It´s more like speaking Spanish with a French twist. So now, just check off Portgugese off the list please. No I jest again. There were some things that I couldn´t understand but I´ve determined that when I get back I´m going to take Portugese as a third language. Also Quechua, if they even offer that in any place in the United States haha (I might have to make a return trip to Macchu Picchu to learn that one). I tried the German, Japanese, Korean, Italian, French, etc translations and didn´t get a thing out of it, so those will just have to wait.<br /></div>
Oh, hey. Lucero ALMOST got baptized again. Talk about a frustrating experience......this past week we asked her like five billion and two questions to see if she would be able to be baptized. She was all excited and "yes, yes, yes" about it. I thought there was something that bothered her with her family but she told us that her family was fine with it. The hard thing is that she´s always pretty quiet and not very talkative in any situation. Anyway........so basically it took her until the baptismal font, just before we opened the big doors so all could see, to flip out again. Part of it was her trauma of the mission leader trying to force her underwater the last time, so that´s why she decided it would be better for me to do it. However, at that moment she panicked. But this time she wouldn´t leave the baptismal font either or get baptized. So after twenty minutes of standing in cold water, she let us know that her mom wasn´t ok with her getting baptized. Even though she´s 18 years old, her mom controls her life, and they don´t really have a good relationship. The bishop helped us out and promised he would talk to her mother this week. I was so frustrated, and so were the zone leaders, who are in the same ward as us, and all the other members were also frustrated. Anyway, we´re doing our best to help Lucero out to see what we can do.<br /></div>
The good part about the baptismal service Saturday was that Luis Urbina DID get baptized. Earlier that day he was stricken with a cough and went to the doctor for medicine. However, he was determined to get baptized after considering postponing another week. We offered him a blessing of health with the bishop, and headed out to the chapel together, where he got baptized in a flash. It was just Lucero that sort of disrupted the whole occasion.......eehhhhh.<br /></div>
<div>
We also had a hard time finding new investigators this past week. It was weird because we contacted five member references, and not even a single one had solid results the past few days. Yesterday, in my desperation to not come out with zero new investigators at the end of the week, something which I´ve been able to avoid all my mission, I prayed that we would be able to find at least one new person to teach. Later that day, we met with one of our newer investigators, Charo, who is a single mother. To my surprise we found out she has a daughter, Vanessa, who is 9 years old. It hadn´t even dawned on me that Charo had a daughter old enough to be baptized. Precious little Vanessa came and sat down with us for the lesson like a little heavenly answer to my prayer that morning. So, after teaching a lesson on the importance of faith, repentance, and baptism, we placed a baptismal date for the 6th of July, and now Charo and her daughter are excited to follow the example of Jesus Christ together as mother and daughter!<br /></div>
<div>
The Miranda family is excited to get married and baptized. The hard thing is that we still have not been able to get a hold of Marilu´s birth cirtificate so they can complete their marriage documents. Yesterday we held the pre-interview to see what they lack as far as the lessons go, but they´re pretty darn ready, except for a little review on tithing and in keeping the sabbath day holy. The only thing left is getting that darn birth certificate from a little town in the Peruvian Sierra. Everything hangs on that single document.<br /></div>
<div>
We´ve also been teaching a new lot, the Chipana family. They´re a family of six, two of the kids are just little wee todds, but Miguel is 12, and Siomara is 14, with their parents Eusevio and Felicita. They have a few problems as a couple such as alcoholism and fighting, but it´s not something the gospel of Jesus Christ can´t resolve. Eusevio came to church yesterday alone, which was a surprise. But we have hopes in teaching them and helping them progress in the restored gospel as a family.<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, it really has been an up and down week. I was reading Preach My Gospel chapter six this morning which talks about Christlike attributes, several of which are faith, patience, diligence, and humility, several things we have to work on as missionaries every single day! I just need to keep my head up! After watching the worldwide training yesterday, I´ve been very inspired to work even harder and get on track. The great thing is that Floresta has some fantastic leaders, and so we´re all excited to work together and get this work of salvation thang rolling forth like a "stone cut out of a mountain without hands."<br /></div>
<div>
I love you all so much!<br /></div>

<div>
<div>
<div>
<div>
Well, I´m currently about to bang my head against the computer screen because the music in this internet place is so loud! I´m not sure what the new zone leaders were thinking.<br /></div>
Well, last Saturday we got the call for the new transfers. It was surprising to find out that I´ve been transferred to a new zone......Pachacamach 2......BUT I´m here to stay in Floresta! Yay! President Douglas changed the zone limits here in Villa El Salvador and changed the names to accomadate the division of a new Villa El Salvadar stake! On June 2, there will officially be a whole new stake called Pachacamac here. It really goes to show how hard the missionaries are working to advance this great work!<br /></div>
The second great piece of good news is that I´m training!!!! Surprisingly, I already met my companion before he was a missionary........huh. Elder Borda is from Canete, my last zone, and came to Mala once to help us do a big activity knocking doors! He´s temporarily waiting his visa to head over them mountains to La Paz, Bolivia. But I´ve been blessed to be his trainer over the next six weeks! Yesterday we had a chance to do a bit of proselyting together and I´m super impressed. He has a great spirit about him and a natural way of teaching in a simple, powerful way. Also, a great laugh! I´m excited to be his first non-CCM companion in the big bad mish.<br /></div>
Thirdly, I forgot my USB to send you guys the photo of the baptism last Saturday. It was a chaotic process getting all the baptismal interviews and other arrangements out of the way for Saturday, but it was a great success! With Yhon and Rosa, the hitching and dunking process was so fun (again, again!) Now we´re focused on two of their other sons, Andres and Luis, who seem to be a bit more animated to join the church.<br /><br />Jhon Quintana had a vision the night after his baptism that comfirmed his future role in bringing his whole family into the gospel. Apparently, in his dream, I was baptizing him in a huge river with ward members and missionaries observing from the banks. Suddenly, it was the end of the world and an angel descended from heaven saying "Choose which door you must enter". Then two doors appeared in front of him, one wide, the other narrow. All the members and missionaries entered into the narrow door, leaving Jhon behind to choose which to enter. He said there was an evil voice that was tempting him to enter into the wider door, but he resisted when he thought it would be better to follow the rest by entering the narrow door. After entering, he said he was surrounded by a beautiful, cloudy landscape, where all the missionaries and their families were there. He said he had never felt such joy and peace, and that he never wanted to leave. Once again, a voice came to him indicating that their were 10 people he was meant to bring there but 6 hadn´t yet entered through the narrow door, and Jhon realized that his family wasn´t with him. Before he could respond he woke up, but knew what he was supposed to do. All this he told was right before his confirmation at church on Sunday morning. What a nice coincidence when you read 2 Nefi 31:9.<br /><br /> At the baptismal service, Alexis and Amy´s mom, Mary Lou, gave them both big enthusiastic hugs and kisses as they climbed out of the baptismal font. Alexis and Amy are now on a mission to get their parents married and baptized in June.We have plans to get in gear with collecting their documents as the massive marriage ceremony is on June 22.<br /><br /> Well, let´s just say that Saturday night, after the baptismal service, I slept more profoundly than ever before from exhaustion.<br /></div>
I guess it´s time for the bad news. Last Friday, at the very last moment, Edward told us he didn´t want to get baptized. We had an interesting lesson a few days before where his mom and two aunts were present. At first we had a great lesson going. Suddenly the doorbell rang, and in came the LLAMA. A man of about five feet with a maroon sweater and yellow collared shirt, and to complete it all, almost bald. THIS was the man Regina had mentioned a few days earlier, who ended up being her daughter, Maria´s, secret......well, adulterer. AAaaahahhhhhh in that moment I wanted to die. But we continued the lesson as if we didn´t mind him listening. THEN, just to complete the situation, the doorbell rang again, and in came Edward from school. It was Sooooo awkard........but hey, Edward sat down and in the middle of our lesson asked a key question. "Elder, what happens when someone has a double personality?" We already knew what he was heading towards, but it was too late, Elder Gutierrez, in despair, pretending as if nothing was wrong, said, "what do you mean?" Edward responded, "What happens when a man already has his girl, and then he goes to see another girl. And what if he´s already married and has kids? Because THIS man right here already has his family and my mom is his girlfriend!" Then the llama exploded. They had, well....... a little argument because Edward hates the Llama. We just sat and watched as the embarrasment engulfed Maria. Basically we left that lesson telling them they all need to repent and be better examples. Now Maria never wants to see us again, and has influenced Edward not to get baptized. The Llama has her hooked so far, even though he just uses her for money....and other stuff...uhhhhhhhh.....ugh. It was a true tragedy, and there´s worse that could happen right? Not really.Things like this aren´t too uncommon down here.But hey, we still have hope to help them dig themselves out of a dirty situation and recieve forgiveness. So our new plan with them is called, Operación: "Dejar la Llama". Things like this just help me look further into the healing power of the Atonement in uniting families and saving souls.<br /></div>
Anyway, we currently have Lucero and Lucia with baptismal dates in June. This next week we have to do a bit of recontacting with them as last week was so crazy busy. Also, we have couple newer families, Alvarado and Munoz, who we´ll now be focusing on more. There´s always more work to be done here, and more people who need the saving ordinances of the restored gospel!<br /></div>
I´m grateful for the time that I have as a missionary. Each day I´m realizing more and more how short the time really is. Already almost nine months!!! That means almost a year, and then 18 months, and them I´m back home. But hey, I´m taking it all in as much as I can while it lasts, and the Lord is working within, and outside of me as I strive to be odedient, faithful, diligent and teachable. I love this gospel because I know it changes lives and families, and is changing my current family and preparing my future one. I love you all so much and wish you all another great week! You all deserve the best!<br /></div>

It´s been yet ANOTHER week in which the time has flown by without even realizing. I guess that comes along with being stressed out with so much to do! We´ve been working hard to protect our investigators with baptismal dates for this month of May, and gearing up with all those who we have in June. In our agenda it´s nearly impossible to find space these days.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This past week we had several baptismal interviews for Alexis, Amy and Edward, the youngsters, last Friday night. We thought it would be a good idea to get them cleared up and ready to go a week early. Yhon , Rosa, and Jhon Quintana have their interviews on Wednesday. On top of that, Yhon and Rosa are getting married on Wednesday, and all six have their baptism on Saturday! So it´s full "chamba" this week as they say in Peru.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Maria, Edward´s mom, has been a bit of a challenge to find home this past week with her job as a nurse. Lately she´s had a lot of overtime, and without very many labor laws in Peru, the jobs here are pretty exhausting. However, Maria continues to be excited for her baptism on June 8th. We´ve been teaching her son without her these past few days. Saturday, however, they had an argument and Edward slept over at Grandma´s, Regina, and didn´t want to come to church because of his frustration with his Mom. So during the second hour we zipped down to his house from the chapel to drag him out of bed and get him to sacrament meeting. After talking it out with him he expressed to us his frustration and we helped him get more excited for his baptism. He´s an incredible kid, makes us laugh with his silly comments, and despite difficult family problems, I know the Lord will bless him with peace and comfort.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Another investigator, Lucia Poma, has a baptismal date for the 8th of June. She reminds us a lot of Regina in the way she commits and demonstrates her great faith. However, she works as a caretaker for an old lady of about 92 years, and her job makes it a little difficult to find time to visit. We gave her a Book of Mormon to give to her patient with a testimony written on the front page. Lucia told us that it would be a great idea because even at 92 years old, her patient loves to read and has her marbles together. She wasn´t able to come to church yesterday because of an emergency call, but we´ll be able to focus more on her these next few days.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lucero had her baptismal date for this Saturday, but due to some personal problems, we´ve decided to move her to June 8th, giving her time to make a greater, more profound change. She has some bad family influences that have caused her some grief and makes her feel guilty, but with patience and love, she´s slowly opening up to us and depending more on the Savior to change her heart.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, there´s always more to tell, but not enough time to say it all. However, I just wanted to wish my mom "Happy Mother´s Day!" and I can´t wait to see you all in the skype sesh tonight! Also, what exciting news it was to hear that Connor is headed to Chile and Katie to Honduras! AAAAaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Wow, we´ll all be able to speak spanish together! Lo maximo!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love you all sooooooo much! Have an excellent week!</div>

The work continues to flourish here as Elder Gutierrez and I continue in the work of the Lord. It´s kinda sad that I´ll only have my companion for two more weeks and then he´s outta here......but hey, just taking advantage of the time we have to work together.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This past week we´ve had the privilege of going to the temple as a zone. After taking a billion pictures outside before the temple session, we entered inside and to my surprise, one of the American temple workers, I forget his name, scanned my temple recommend and handed me a paper saying, "hey, if you write your mom a little note here with her number on it I´ll call her and let her know how you´re doing." I thought that would be a super great idea and so I wrote down the info and gave him a hug for such a nice offer. It sounds like it had some pretty good results : ) But hey, the mother´s day skype sesh is comin´up here pretty soon! Yay! See you guys soon! Anyway, the temple was a great time to reflect and ponder the time I´ve had as a missionary and who I want to become. I love the temple!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As of yesterday, we currently have twelve investigators with baptismal dates. I couldn´t believe it! Because the norm is maybe 2 to 4. It just goes to show how much the Lord has blessed us these past few weeks. So I wish I could tell you about all of them but the time just doesn´t allow.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With our investigators things are really going pretty well. Remember last week when I said that I´ve never had such an easy time helping a couple get married? Well, I cursed myself because later that day we compared the Jhon´s ID card and his birth certficate only to find out that his name is spelled "Yhon" instead of "Jhon".............so basically, because of one SINGLE letter the Peruvian government puts up a huge fuss and they can´t get married until the documents match. But we´ve already started with getting him a new ID card and have hopes that they can still get married and baptized on the 18th. So I guess we´ll see.......the best was seeing how dedicated Jhon, or now "Yhon", was in getting it all figured out. His aunt is a member of the church in the ward, Hermana Nasaria, and is one of the strongest converts to the church I have ever seen in my life. With her helping us out with Yhon and Rosa´s marriage process, nothing, not even the Peruvian government, can stop us haha. Whenever we come back as a family to Peru to visit after the mish, Yhon and Rosa, along with their aunt Nasaria, are definitely some of the members (or future members) we´re going to visit!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We also have the Miranda family, Mary Lou (32), Jose Luis(31), Alexis(15), Amy(10), Leonardo(7), Leticia(5), and Fernanda(2). They´re a wonderful bunch and love it when we come to visit their humble house made of bricks and cardboard. On Friday we did a Family Home Evening and talked about how sacrfice brings blessings. We watched the video about John Tanner in Spanish and they were all so attentive to the lesson. Afterwards, we shared a big muffin cake that the Mission Leader, Hermano Rober, brought along. The biggest challenge is getting Jose Luis, however, to come to church. Yesterday everybody came to church except him, even though he promised he would. Alexis and Amy will be having their baptism on the 18th and this next week we´ll be having their baptismal interviews. But little by little we know this family will make a great impact in the church. They´re our next focus on getting the parents married in June.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Maria Candela and her son Edward continue to make excellent progress. I love visiting with them because she´s a hilarious lady with a great sense of humor and a huge heart as a nurse. At times she tells us about her complaints with some of her patients. Yesterday she had plans to come to church with her mom, Regina, and her son, but couldn´t because, in her own words referring to an old patient, "That old hag wouldn´t let me go to church will all her whining!" But she´s looking to find a new job to come to church on Sundays more easily and now has a baptismal date for the 8th of June. Her son has a date for the 18th of May.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, I wish I could just go on and on but that´s all the time that I have. I love you all so much and pray for you. Thank you for all your prayers in return. For all that it´s worth, just know that my testimony of the restored gospel strengthens me each day as I represent Jesus Christ, our Savior, in a very different part of the world.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
See y´all on Skype!</div>

I wish I could´ve been there to see Alise´s baptism! I love you so much Lisey Lou! Every time I get to witness a baptism, I always think of Hunter´s baptims several years ago and how stongly I felt the Spirit then. Nothing compares to seeing Primary baptisms.</span><br />
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First of all, we had a surprise visit from Elder Bednar to our mission last Wednesday. Talk about how pumped I was to see an apostle! Elder Gutierrez and I woke up bright and early so we could meet up with the zone as we all headed for La Molina in Lima, which is where the temple, the CCM, and the main church office is for several countries in South America. First of all, we got caught in the middle of traffic while on the train where the bodies were so packed we couldn´t move and the doors couldn´t shut completely while in the stations. It was horrible! The same with the amount of crazy taxi drivers in the busy streets. Despite the commute, we made it in time to the stake center where all the missionaries were seated.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The whole meeting lasted about 3 hours. The way in which Elder Bednar was very different in comparison with General Conference, which is always incredible to see because you get to see more of their personality. He approached the whole meeting as a sort of question and answer type of reunion. Instead of us just taking copious and pointless notes for us to lose and forget on what he says, he challenged us to only write down what we learned by the Holy Ghost. He asked us questions, we responded, and he commented or testified. Later, we asked questions, he responded with more questions, we commented, then he commented and testified! It was pretty incredible. Much of what we talked about was how faith plus action is what brings answers to our prayers. Without acting for the desired blessings, we have "weak faith". One thing that really impressed me was the intelligence of Elder Bednar. He was like a stream of heavenly knowledge just pouring down on the congregation of elders and sisters. One thing he expressed was that he really doesn´t feel all that smart, but that he completely relies on the Spirit in anything that he asks, testifies, or says. More and more throughout the meeting the Spirit bore withness to me of the reality of Savior and the power of the restored gospel. Elder Bednar really made me do some internal reflecting as a missionary and member of the church. Any question that came to mind to ask Elder Bednar I was able to respond almost immediately for myself in my own head, which he said was what he hoped we were doing while together for a short time. At the very end, Elder Bednar bore a simple testimony as a personal witness of Jesus Christ. At that very moment the Spirt rushed in so strongly that I couldn´t hold back tears. I just simply knew he was an apostle of the Lord.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At the very end, one by one, each elder and sister had the opportunity to shake the hands of Elder Bednar, Elder Pino, and Elder Useda of the Seventy along with their incredible wives. The face of Elder Bednar was iluminated with the light of Christ as I looked into his face and shook his hand as he said, "Thank you Elder Lundberg!"</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So yeah, that was definitely a highlight of the mission so far!</div>

<div>
This past Saturday we had the baptism of our dear investigator and now member of the church, Hermana Regina! I had the privilege of baptizing her. As you can see in the photo I forgot to bring my sandals so I was barefoot during the session! But it was a special moment for Regina as she and I carefully entered the baptismal font together. She was a little shocked by the cold water and little by little dipped a bit further in. Some of the chapels here don´t have water heaters so be grateful back home! Anyway, Regina did absolutely fantastic! As she took her towel she said, "Tengo ganas de llorar!" and began to cry into the arms of one of the sisters to change in the bathroom. Her testimony was short and powerful afterwards as she witnessed her joy to a crowd of about 30 people.That was a sweet experience for us a her missionaries because we knew how seriously she had made a covenant with the Lord. Now, as a member of the church, we´re working with her daughter Maria (the bigger lady in the photo) and her grandson Edward who´s fifteen. The best part is that they´re both just like Regina, smart, faithful, and fully prepared to recieve the restored gospel! Like before, Edward has his baptismal date set for the 18th and Maria is looking for a new job so she can attend church on Sunday. Soon enough she will have a baptismal date end of May or in June! We might need two missionaries to baptize her haha....but for reals......</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also, Jhon and Rosa Urbina continue to progress nicely toward their baptism on the 18th as well. We received a lot of good news from the municipality this week as they will be having a "matrimonio masivo" or "massive marriage" ceremony in June. The best part is that starting on the sixth of Maythey can sign all the papers to become legally married right their on the spot and then have the fiesta in June. Plus it´s less than half the cost. Elder Gutierrez and I felt SO blessed by the news because getting couples married never happens to smoothly! We´re also working with two out of their four sons who aren´t baptized, Andres(18) and Luis(15), (David was baptized in March and Josue is only two years old ), and you can really start to see the conversion kick in as Jhon and Rosa began testifying of the gospel during a lesson last nigh with the whole family gathered together. It was a special experience and certainly a blessing to see two parents, after so much struggle and emotional pain, come together in love for their sons. Yet another powerful witness of the changing power of the gospel in the lives of such humble people.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, we also have Jhon Quintana set for May 11th. We had a bit of trouble contacting him this past week because his cellphone was robbed (something which seems to happen to everybody here haha), but he came to church yesterday and continues to be excited for the next two weeks we have to prepare him spiritually.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, I testify that God really moves within our hearts through the Holy Ghost. I know that Jesus Christ, with all the suffering he went through, understands our struggles and pains, but also our joys and successes. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints brings happiness if we choose to live according to the principles of the Gospel, which are correct and eternally true. As Jade always says, "Make good choices!" We are to act according to our faith, and God with make wonders in our lives, callings, and families! Especially all three of mine!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love you all so much!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This has been another incredible and blessed week here in Floresta, Villa El Salvador. The time has been going by so fast I can hardly believe it. Elder Gutierrez is an incredible companion and we´re really seeing the fruits of our labors. We have an incredible group of investigators who are excited to receive the blessings and be obedient in living the gospel.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I guess I should start off by saying that we had twelve investigators come to church yesterday! Which is basically unheard of, but the Lord has blessed us with five families! The best part is that all of our investigators are member references, which really goes to show the importance of the members in supporting the missionaries by sharing the gospel with friends, neighbors, and family. My companion and I have been seeing a lot of excitement and growth of faith in the ward leaders and their desire to work. Floresta is becoming a powerful little part of the kingdom of God.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Regina, literally the best Peruvian woman around, introduced us this week to her daughter, Maria. She has arms that could suffocate or crush my head! We had a visit with Regina while Maria was over at her house helping with Sebastian´s homework. Maria, with a big attitude, refused to sit down with us after we invited her to join us for the lesson, but she stayed at the table at the other end of the living room while we taught a simple lesson on the Word of Wisdom. As usual, Regina was totally prepared and once again, pretty much gave us the lesson on how much she loves the Prophet Joseph Smith and the revelations that he was able to recieve on maintaining healthy lifestyles as saints by inspiration of the Lord. Right in the middle of the lesson however, Maria piped in from across the room with a question, "can´t I drink coffee from time to time? Like once a week or so?" Elder Gutierrez and I were excited because we could tell she was quite interested in what her mom had to say. We began to explain the blessings that come as we keep away from alcohol, drugs, tea, coffee, and tobacco, and the Lord really began to touch Maria´s heart as she responded in her big booming voice, "When are you youngsters gonna visit me?!" We soon learned that everybody in her neighborhood knows her as the honorary "Senora Candela." Nothing like a good nickname in the ghettos of Lima, Peru. Images of a huge Peruvian woman crushing my head between her arms came flashing back into my mind.......</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Later this past week we had two lessons with Senora Candela and her 14 year old son, Edwin, who came to church yesterday and absolutely loved it. Maria wasn´t able to come because of her job as a nurse, but she´s gearing up to clear up her schedule so she can come to church. After a powerfully spiritual lesson on the Restoration yesterday evening, we put a baptismal date for Edwin on May 18th. Her mom told him, with tears in her eyes, "Yo te sigo hijo." Translation, "I follow you son." Soon enough Maria will have a baptismal date once we know better her work schedule! Thank you Regina!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We also came across a sort of problem with our ivestigator, Aylin. Being only seventeen years old, her dad won´t give her permission to be baptized. So we´ve had to sort of hold back a little. This next week we´ll be praying hard for her dad so he can soften his heart and let his daughter be baptized. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We also have the parents of family Miranda getting in gear for thinking of a marriage date. Amy and Alexis, two of their five kids have a baptismal date for the 18th of May. Little by little we´re working with their dad, Jose Luis, to soften his heart and help his partner, Mary Lou, find a new job so they can all come to church as a family.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This past week we were introduced to some neighbors of the Elder´s Quorum President, Lucia and her son, Moises. Although only 22 years old, Moises has already been to jail twice. But despite his past, he has been prepared by the Lord to hear our message of the gospel and really wants to make a change. With tears in her eyes, Lucia expressed the joy she felt as her son sat by her side as we taught them in their humble home. They both wish to be baptized and find our for themselves if what we teach is true or not. This tuesday we´ll be placing a baptismal date for May!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last of all, Family Urbina is really starting to make leaps and bounds in their spiritual progress. The dad, Jhon, was willing to close his store on Sunday to have the whole family come to church and has really put his faith and trust in the Lord to make a change in his home. This thursday we should have the birth certificate of his wife, Rosa, so we can start planning their marriage and baptism for the 17th and 18th of May.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, I feel so extremely blessed for all the incredible progress and blessings that we are receiving for our effort as a companionship. The mission is changing my life as I work as an instrument in the hands of the Lord. I truly feel the power of the Holy Ghost every time we open our mouth and declare this gospel to our little piece of Zion in the middle of Peru.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love you all and take care this week!</div>

But not just any week!<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px; font-family: Calibri;">This has been an extraordinary week! This little piece of the kingdom of God called Floresta I is definitely rolling forth! Elder Gutierrez has been a real blessing of a companion, and this whole transfer will definitely be one of the best on my mission. This is going to be a super fast six weeks. Time flies on the mission when you most enjoy it for sure. It seems like I blinked since last writing an email. Also, every FIRST week of a transfer, our P-Day is on Wednesday, and the rest are on Monday . Sorry of yall were confused by that last week.</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This past week we´ve been gearing up with Regina on the Restoration. She basically taught us the lesson once again, but absolutely loves the fact that there are living prohets and the Book of Mormon. Every time we teach her I feel like she´s already a member of the church. There´s just so much understand of the truth and light within her. Elder Gutierrez was super impressed by her perseverence and faith. For the third time in a row, she came to church yesterday on the dot and took in all three hours by taking copious notes, making great commentary, and helping her tag-along grandson, Sebastian, enjoy it as well. I can´t wait for her baptism on the 27th!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Aylin is also well on her way to the waters of baptism on the 27th. This last week we moved her baptismal date one week later just to make sure she was ready. I´m all about baptizing converts, and not about numbers. So we talked it all out with her in regards to keeping the sabbath day holy, and she came to church yesterday with a smile on her face and her Book of Mormon tucked in her arms. That makes two out of two who will be getting baptized in April!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Jhon and Rosa are getting all their documents ready this week so we can set an actual marriage and baptismal date with them. As I mentioned before, we baptized their son David in March, and he´s been helping us out in animating his parents and in setting a good example. In May we´re gonna get them hitched and dunked for sure folks! They continue coming to church as well! So that makes four out of four in the chapel yesterday so far.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We also have another new investigator, Linda, who´s a single women, about age 30. Her mom is a faithful member in the ward, and Linda previously attended church for a while but yesterday was her first time while I´v been here. The missionaries sort of taught her before, but she never really had time, even though she knows the church is true. However, we had a great lesson with her yesterday, and helped her realize the necessity of perhaps giving up her job for the gospel. In the last Ensign for this month, there´s a great article about sometimes needing to give up the good things for something better, the Lord and his kingdom. Read it! But I especially find that too be a big challenge for many here as Sunday is one of the bigger business days in Peru. Linda makes five out of five in the chapel on Sunday!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This past week we were given a reference by one of our recent converts, David, to his friend, Alexis. To my wonderful surprise, his mother is already a member, but less active since a teenager, and wants to return to the church. Her husband, son and daughter, all want to listen to us and be baptized. They have three younger kids below age seven as well who love it when we visit. Alexis and his sister Amy have baptismal dates for the fourth of May. The father, Jose Luis and Mary Lou, the mom, wish to get married but lack the funds. But there´s no one better to ask for help than the missionaries! I love finding families to teach! Unfortunately, only Alexis was able to make it to church yesterday, but I have faith that next Sunday we´ll see their seven member family in Sacrament meeting! For now, we have six out of six in church yesterday!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last of all, we were referenced to another guy named Jean Marco, age 21. He´s an old investigator. Last Friday we had a powerful lesson with him about the Plan of Salvation. He told us that his parents died a few years ago and he now lives with his older sister, who´s a less active member of the church. But Jean Marcos is a dynamic character. He´s super chill, and plays guitar and sings in a band. But he´s well put together as a person, and has a lot of light. I felt a super strong confirmation that he´s going to be a missionary one day.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, that´s the update for the week! These people are changing my life, and I feel responsible for each and every one of them in their salvation! This is a great work! I love this gospel, and know it to be eternally true!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Love you all!</div>

I am so blessed.<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px; font-family: Calibri;">Ok, so while my pictures are loading, this week I´ll be able to write in peace. But what a week it has been! And how cool is it now that missionaries can write to family AND friends. Pretty dang shnazzy and convenient cause.....well....time to move on from physical hand written letters. I mean.....we live in 2013 :) Only two more years until we have flying cars according to "Back to the Future."</span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, first of all. GENERAL CONFERENCE. As a missionary, you realize why in the heck didn't you pay attention to General Conference before. It´s like watching the Super Bowl, World Series, and the World Cup all at the same time, but even better. haha. This General Conference was pretty great. I forgot to bring my notes from my journal to share what I wrote so I´m kind of going off memory. But I really enjoyed the talk given by Sister Dalton in the first session because of the story she shared about her husband placing the carpet underneath the pulpit after she vaccumed, and vaccumed, and vaccumed.....also, I really enjoyed Elder Eyring´s talk about the story in the New Testament after Christ resurrected from the tomb and appeared to two disciples. Basically, at the end of the talk he said that he´s seen Christ just as those two disciples saw him and I felt the spirit testify so strongly to my heart that he really is a living apostle of God. Well, my mind is racing, and my memory short so I´m having trouble remembering all that I felt without my notes but..........it was an incredible weekend.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also, on Monday we had TRANSFERS. And wow. I stay behind in Floresta while Elder Apagueno was transferred to another area just a few blocks away, but in a different zone within Villa El Salvador. And guess what? I´ve been paired up with my former zone leader, Elder Gutierrez! I know what you think.....I´m a zone leader! WRONG. NOPE. Just a normal co-companion as before. The mission president apparently had a strong, tearful spiritual confirmation that he should pair us up together as companions. Even though this is Elder Gutierrez´s last transfer before he goes home, he´s finishing off as a co-companion with me! But how incredibly grateful I am! Elder Gutierrez is an incredible missionary. Super obedient, smart, hard working, spiritual, etc. and he´s from Guayaquil, Ecuador! I feel like I´ve been liberated to reach new heights and learn so much from a missionary who has a lot to teach me!<br /><div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These past couple days we´ve been doing a LOT of street contacting, something which I haven´t really done too much with my former companions.It´s been a lot of good, hard work and the past two nights I´ve been so tired it seems like I´ve fallen asleep before laying my head on my pillow. But we both think a lot the same in the way we act and teach with the investigators, although the spiritual connection is a little more refined and experienced on Elder Gutierrez´s part. But in the last week we had some trouble with a few investogators with baptismal dates, but this week we going to make a big push to get them back on track with what matters most in their lives. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
One investigator, Regina, has her baptismal date set for the 27th of this month. She was literally so darn prepared for the gospel. Before inviting her to baptism, we showed a three minute video of Christ´s baptism and right after without hesitating she said, "Is that how you´re going to baptize me? And what day can I be baptized?!". She´s an older women about age 60 that lives with her grandson and her husband. Although there are a lot of problems in her home, she tells us every time that she doesn´t cry anymore ever since she started listening to us. She´s found peace, happiness, and calm. Her husband has even stopped drinking as much, and her grandson loves coming and participating in the primary. Regina also came to both sessions of conference last Sunday and absolutely loved it. But that´s just what this gospel does. It makes people happy. And that an absolute, ETERNAL truth.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love being a missionary. I love the fact that all my friends are going to be missionaries. I love a family that supports me in every aspect of my mission. I love this little part of the kingdom of God called Floresta in which I get to serve. I feel loved by a Savior who bears me up and guides me in moments when I need him most. I´m so blessed!</div>

So sorry about that because I´d love for you all to see the pictures I´ve taken but........later on. Anyway, it´s gonna be super short today but I´m mostly excited for this upcoming weekend. The church news should be pretty exciting, and as a missionary, general conference is like watching the Super Bowl haha! </span></span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> This past week we found a golden investigator named Regina. She´s an older woman about in her sixties and lives with a alcoholic husband and takes care of her 7 year old grandson. She´s one of those type of Catholics that confesses whenever she misses mass on Sunday. She´s super into religion, and has a huge sentimental heart. When we first met her, I just knew she was prepared for our message of the Restored Gospel. She came to church yesterday and absolutley loved it to death. She even took notes during all three hours! Yesterday evening, we visited with her and she said "I´m not going to mass anymore. Every Sunday I´m going to be in your church." She had also read the first few pages of the Book of Mormon including the Intro, Testimony of the Three Witnesses, and so forth, wihtout us even telling her to. She loves the Book of Mormon! And also said, as if it were just the most natural thing in the world, "What a privilege it was for Joseph Smith to have such incredible revelation from the Lord." I really admire Regina because she´s super perseverant. Depsite the many problems within her family, she has an unshakeable faith in Christ. She´s basivally already a member,</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So yup, That´s my little story for the week. Sorry I got cut so short!</span></div>

Ok so this past week was kina great. </span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First of all, at the beginning of the week I got acquainted with the richest parts of Lima. My companion´s foot has been having problems so we called the mission office and they set us up for an appointment with the foot doctor. So we took the train from Villa El Salvador to central Lima. It was weird because as we moved along the buildings, streets, and people eventually got nicer and nicer, until I eventually felt like I was in the middle of some really nice part of San Diego along the beach. It was weird seeing big cars and well dressed people, with women in their high heels and men in suits. Ha. My companion asked me if this is what the United States is like, and I just said ¨Wellp....kind of." So yeah. It was kind of like taking a mini vacation to California. It even had the smell of those pine bushes whenever we visited family in San Francisco! So that was sort of refreshing in a way.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Also, we worked all week looking forward to Saturday´s baptism. On Tuesday we did the baptismal interviews, and as David, Maria, and Luz came out smiling, I gave each one a big dulce de leche cookie. I was so proud! We visited them throughout the week to keep them excited. Saturday night, as usual, we started on the dot, Peruvian time, which means about an hour late. So at 7:57, after taking a load of pictures, we started singing the hymn, "If There´s Sunshine in Your Soul Today" with a full house of members and visitors a like supporting. Two youth gave their short messages, and then we showed a quick video of the Savior getting baptized. We waited a short time as each one entered into the baptismal font and the doors opened with the big mirror above so everybody could see. Thankfully, the chapels here are super nice (even nicer than most chapels in Utah), so we had plenty of space to work with. After David, Maria, and Fiorella (an invistigator from the other elders in the ward) were baptized, the whole room went silent as Bishop De La Cruz carried the fragile body of Luz into the font. Although fourteen years old, she has the mishapen body of about a 10 year old due to a bone growth disorder. She´s never even taken a step in her life, but that night we had the privilege of seeing her take one giant leap spiritually as she dangled helplessly above the moving water. All of us were emotionally attached to the scene, including the bishop, who began to tear up as he raised his hand and repeated the words of baptism. I think the best part was seeing Luz´ big smile while underneath the clear blue water.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway, I wish you could all be part of what I get to see here in Peru! This is truely such an incredible work that cannot be stopped. Each and every day as a missionary is such a privilege, and I definitely won´t be the same Davis that left only 7 months ago. So just be prepared.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Big hug for you all!</span></div>

<div>
Hello Gringos,</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
I feel like things are happening so fast in the world today. Last Wednesday I had a division with my district leader, Elder Lawry, another fellow Gringo. We were sitting in a restaurant eating lunch and listening to the news about the new pope, and whattya know, he´s Argentine. (Argentinian?) So that's cool that he's from South America and totally a Jesuit too. I really hope he can influence the Catholic church to help out in this fight against immorality cause. So if Pope Francis can help us out that would be great! He was definitley all over the news here. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Everything is doing pretty darn great! This next Saturday we have a baptism for three: David, Luz, and Maria. And with the other companionship in the ward we´ll actually have four baptisms. The ward is super excited and both the young womens and young mens programs are planning something special for the occasion. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last night we had a lesson with the parents of David, Jhon and Rosa. We challenged them both to marriage and to baptism, and they accepted! I was so excited for them and their marriage date is set for the 26th of April, and their baptism the following day, on the 27th. Ealier that morning Elder Apagueno and I did a practice for the lesson which really helped us how we would help them accept the invitation later that night. The lesson went so smoothly. We had the bishop´s wife, Fanny, and Brother Julio accompany us, and they both bore wonderful testimony of this gospel. Jhon is super ready to make a change, but with Rosa it´s been a little more challenging with her Evangelical background. However, she opened her heart and at the end I bore my testimony while looking straight into her eyes. I don´t know but something changed inside her, and now she wears a big grin whenever she sees us. This family is GOING to change. That´s just what this gospel does you know.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We´re also working with a less active family, the Cabreras. They have a lot of challenges in their home, but Elder Apagueno and I have really been able to get inside their hearts. We found little precious Iven, age 8, to help her get baptized as a written child in the church records. We saw her as the opportunity to open the heart of her grandfather, Jose, who´s had about five thousand elders try and get him to accept baptism (or something around that number). He´s the only one in the family who´s not a member and we know that if he gets baptized, he´ll be super loyal and his family will become a great strength to the ward. This last Saturday we held Iven´s baptism, and her uncle did the baptism. The whole family came out, shed tears during the service, and now we´re doing a FHE with them tonight. So yup. I love this family.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, my times up. I love you all. Really, Just stay strong. We do not need more people falling away from the gospel, but coming towards it in a time when the world is moving faster and faster every day. Have a great week!</div>

<div>
This week has been a bunch of hard work and a lot of tough decisions: filter out those who´ve decided against changing their lives for the better, and find those who are prepared. Thankfully, David, Luz and Maria continue to be super excited and committed for their baptism on the 23rd of March! But sadly we´ve had to leave behind others who just don´t want to commit. That´s probably the hardest part of being a missionary, watching people use their agency to make wrong choices. But it´s all part of what we do: INVITE people to come unto Christ and not FORCE them. Unfortunately, Peru has a lot of confusing, wicked, and worldy influences that make it so hard for so many to see their path clearly when it comes to religion, family, or happiness. Everyday I thank the Lord for always being so clear with me and for continually lighting my path, even when the vast majority of His children do not choose to have that privilege.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We´ve been able to find several new investigators: Violeta, the Andrade family, the Merino family, Jose, and several others. Violeta is really great because she´s super intelligent and loves to read what we leave behind for her to study. Her husband has been inactive for nine years and recently came in contact with some missionaries of another area who gave us his address and number. Violeta has previously studied with the Jehova´s Witnesses (there are actually a surprising number of that faith down here, and it´s not uncommon to find many of their ¨investigators¨ as well.) Violeta always has great questions and insights. Yesterday we had a great lesson with her about how it´s up to her to discover whether or not the Book of Mormon is true through reading and prayer. The member who came with us to the lesson said afterwards, ¨if she gets baptized, she´ll be an incredibly committed convert.¨</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The Andrade family was a member reference. The parents, Olga and Jhon, have two daughters, Jimena and Alexandra. We´re still trying to visit with the father, but Olga and her daughters seemed interested to find out more. More news will follow the coming Monday.....the Merino couple, Audina and Merardo, are also super interested in what we have to share, and after leaving them with a lesson on ¨praying as a family¨ we set an appointment for this coming Tuesday. Their only drawback is getting married, but who knows, I´ve done it before! Jose is a long-time friend and investigator of the missionaries. His wife and kids are all members, but he just won´t make the commitment. His main fear is that he might dissappoint God after getting baptized, like his son, and so bit by bit, with lots of prayer, we have the hope that maybe this will be his time to commit. </div>

Wellp, it´s been a great week and I´m so happy to be here in Villa El Salvador, Lima, Peru. I´m learning and growing closer to the Savior every day. I feel like he´s shaping and molding me for his wise purpose, and know that I am becoming more converted to his plan each and every moment as a missionary. The scripture I would like to share this week is in Alma 46:14-15. Like it says, let us all be faithful and true Christians in this great cause, because after all that has been said, felt, seen, and done, how can this not be the work of the Lord?</div>

I love, pray and think of you every day!</div>

What an exciting day for me! Not only do I hear purely good news from home, but I´ve been transfered to another area! I received my call to serve in Villa El Salvador Central, which is a newly formed zone. It´s a split off from Villa El Salvador North since this area of Lima baptizes so many that the president saw the need to form a whole new zone! What an exciting opportunity to get to work! Our mission was not affected by the formation of 58 new missions but we are receiving about double the missionaries every transfer (about 48 last time) that it may be likely in the future for a mission split. The Lord´s work is just bustlin´ ya know.<br /><br />I have to admit, I didn´t want to leave Mala. So many incredible things have changed there since I first arrived that it was hard for me to leave feeling like I hadn´t quite finished. I won´t be able to see the new church dedication either, but I´m super excited to see what Elder Luque and his new companion will accomplish over the next several months! ¨Mala la Buena¨ as we call it is certainly a chosen location, and soon enough will be a ward. I made a promise to the members there that I would return after the mish. It was hard saying goodbye especially to my converts there.<br /><br />Last week, Lucio had a horrible sickness and nearly died last Thursday. He has a tumor in his brain, and for a day stopped taking some type of pills that the doctor prescribed. The medication was so strong that when he ran out of pills his body nearly shut down due to the dependence on the drug. Elder Luque and I visited as soon as week could and with tears running down my face I gave the blessing upon his head. According to the words which the Spirit directed me to say, we weren´t sure if he would live or not. But over the next few days he was able to recover, and with the help of Elder Price in looking up information on the drug he was taking, I told him it would be better to try something else (doterra anybody? haha no really!) but I can´t make any suggestions of what to take. Saturday night we did a family home evening with all six of their kids who all want to be baptized, but need to get married first. One son, Eric, who´s single, asked for a Book of Mormon so he could read it and is looking forward to being baptized in March. Lucio was able to recuperate at least to the point that he could sit up to take the Sacrament in his home last Sunday with his wife. I felt the Spirit so strongly as we sang a hymn and then blessed the bread and water for them both. It was a special experience and I pray that the Lord will let him live to be sealed to his wife in the temple next wear as I continue forward ¨missionarying it up¨ in Peru. I feel the Lord has great intentions for such a wonderful family in the future. I love them so much!<br /><br />Goodbye Albertito. Goodbye Blanca. Bye Bye Joel. Later Derliz. See ya Family Villaroel. Take care Hipolito. God speed Laura Cristina. Love you Lucio and Mercedes. I love you all and thank you for the privilege of baptizing you all! Goodbye Mala! See ya soon!<br /><br />and sooooooo............<br /><br />What up Lima! It´s a different feeling here! Maybe a little crazier compared to Mala, but it´s a good kind of crazy that has lots of baptisms on the horizon. My new companion, Elder Apagueno, is another lucky match and I can tell we´re going to make a great team together! Everything here is positive! I´m so grateful for the mission that I have and for the obedience found throughout. In fact, my mission used to have a lot of problems several years ago, but the last two mission presidents have completely changed it around for the best, and the Lord is blessing us for their efforts.<br /><br />Well with all this talk of the last days, I love to think of the moment we will all have with Christ when he comes to feel the marks in his hands and shed tears on his feet just like the Nefites did. Let´s live for and look forward to that very moment with all those we love.<br /><br />I certainly love you all and see ya´ll next time!<br /><br />Elder Lundberg</span>Davis Lundberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02514297383065860633noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2761149860548480174.post-84956222669028761082013-02-25T15:32:00.002-08:002013-02-25T15:32:23.080-08:00When love is in the air...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Haha for some reason the word "amorous" makes me laugh so hard. Well anyway, to make things short we've had a marriage, a birthday, a carnaval, a baptism, and many crazy things this past week. Woof. Probably won't have time to tell it all but here we go....<br /><br />Last Thursday evening at about 5 o' clock we hopped into the second counselor's van with our nifty little suits and matching blue ties with one purpose: MARRIAGE. Ha. The fantastic little groom, Lucio, was waiting for us as we pulled up in front of his house and helped him finish getting dressed. After picking him up and several of his family members we headed over to the beach about 20 minutes away where the mass marriage ceremony was held. After waiting for a good hour, the bride, Mercedes, showed up in a different car with her veil and white dress right as the sunset hit the ocean water. I couldn't believe how miraculous these people are because after thirty years of just living together, you could see the love in their eyes that they had for each other as Lucio walked up to his bride, and how nervous they both felt for such a big moment in their lives and in the lives of their family. After the ceremony, and the words "you are all officially married" we high tailied it out of there to the chapel, where the members in the branch put together a big surprise with cake, dinner, and dancing. As missionaries, we got to listen from the third floor as we tried to sleep through the loud music and dancing until about 12 am. Ha. But we were so happy and so satisfied with the results of our day.On Saturday we held their baptism. Interestingly, nobody showed up because a bunch of people got sick from the food at the marriage ceremony, except the missionaries, the branch president and his wife, and the baptismal candidates! Haha. But the Spirit was so strong, and I know that Mercedes and Lucio will be a permanent and faithful addition to the Mala Branch of Peru. I feel so blessed to be their missionary because in one year, I can be part of their sealing in the Lima temple!<br /><br />Friday night was absolutely crazy. We had our Noche Misional out in the Plaza in front of the chapel and it was absolutely insane with attendance, food, and about a thousand water balloons! The members are really becoming excited and with our recent effort in the Branch Mission Plan, our Branch missionaries are really helping us out in the activties. Lets just say I got soaked and covered in flour while wearing my white shirt and tie by the end of the night. Oh. And one kid vomited on Elder Luque after winning the mango eating contest.<br /><br />Anyway, sorry the letter is a little short this week but hey......cool. This next Saturday is the baptism of Delicia, Laura, and Keysi! It will definitley be a special day. The mission work, at times, is hard to keep up with. Ahh! I love it. It's definitely how it should be!<br /><br />Love you!<br /><br />Elder Lundberg</span>Davis Lundberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02514297383065860633noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2761149860548480174.post-61315461714431843892013-02-04T12:29:00.003-08:002013-02-04T12:29:38.843-08:00Deni Jacobs receives mission call!Deni Jacobs, Davis' cousin, received her mission call to Independence, Missouri as a visitor center missionary.
